The following tips from the West Chicago Police Department can help to keep your holidays safe and happy:
- When shopping, avoid carrying large amounts of cash and always be aware of your surroundings. Park in well lit areas with the car doors locked and windows rolled up. Always store packages out of view, either under seats, beneath blankets or in the trunk.
- Never display gifts near a window or door in your home, and always lock doors and windows when leaving the house.
- If someone comes to your door asking for donations, always ask to see a West Chicago solicitor's permit, as well as an identification card from the organization. Give money only to charities with which you are familiar. Never give personal information over the telephone.
