Touch-a-Truck Scores a Home-Run
West Chicago,
Illinois: June 4, 2007 - Hundreds of kids and their families flocked to
Reed-Keppler Park on Saturday to get a chance to toot the horn of some
mighty trucks. That's not all they enjoyed, though, as the West Chicago
Police Department and the West Chicago Park District joined forces to
provide a morning filled with free food and goodies and a chance to win
one of many great prizes.
The event's creator,
Officer Tony Quarto, has brought Touch-a-Truck to life for the past four
years after attending a similar event in another community. He calls the
effort 'simple fun' for the whole family.
Judging by the
smiles, kids weren't the only ones enjoying the giant vehicles. Parents,
grandparents and older siblings delighted in getting up close and personal
with fire engines, cement mixers and emergency vehicles. There was even a
chance to view the inside of an ice-cream truck, which included a tasty
frozen treat afterward.
