Gallery 200 takes pride in presenting a different Featured Artist each month for visitors' enjoyment, and the encouragement of repeat visits.

 

   
     
     
     

JANUARY:

Graffiti expressionism by way of Asian Sumi painting is how artist Lewis Achenbach describes his exhibit Off the Golden Map, on display at Gallery 200 throughout the month of January.  The artist will host a free Closing Reception of art on Friday, January 27, 2012 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Gallery that will include light refreshments and an opportunity to see the artist while he creates a new work of art.  Meet Achenbach and discuss his fusion of traditional animation, graffiti and Asian art influences and enter a drawing for an original work of art.  Contact Gallery 200 at (630) 293-9550 for more information.

FEBRUARY:
“A Collaboration of Newer Works” is an exhibit featuring a group of artists from The Awakenings Project, a grass-roots initiative whose mission is to assist artists with psychiatric illnesses in developing their craft and finding an outlet for their creative abilities through art in all forms. A free Opening Reception on Friday, February 3, 2012, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Gallery will include light refreshments, entertainment by member poets and musicians and an opportunity to meet the artists and view how the project works to raise public awareness and acceptance of people living with psychiatric disorders. The exhibit will be on display throughout February. Regular Gallery hours are Thursday and Friday from 12:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. Contact Gallery 200 at (630) 293-9550 or visit www.gallery200.org for more information.
 
 

Irene O'Neill made "Searching for the Light" by painting on various misshapen pieces of broken glass and pressing them on paper.
   
         
 

Kurt Taecker (1953-2010) was diagnosed at age 17 with mental illness and considered painting a means of survival. This mixed media piece is titled "Splash of Light".
   
         
 

Trish Evers Cobb (1949-2000) helped to establish The Awakenings Project and was committed to the visual arts and education throughout her life. This piece is titled "Queen of Fools."
   
         
 

"Destiny", by award winning artist Peter Hallock Austin, was inspired from a very young age to explore different media as outlets for expression and experimentation in art, including printmaking and drawing to woodworking and sculpture.
