This year’s Forestry Maintenance Program has begun. Parkway trees in selected areas throughout the City will be trimmed. Winkler’s Tree and Landscaping, Inc. will be trimming trees between now and May 1, 2008. Included in this program will be some whole tree removals of trees that were noted as dying, dead or potentially hazardous.
Trimming trees is necessary to maintain sight distances and proper clearance over streets and sidewalks for safe vehicle and pedestrian travel. Tree trimming is also important for aesthetic reasons and to encourage the growth of strong, healthy trees.
Areas included in this year’s trimming program:
- East of Joliet Street and West of Route 59 from south of Brown Street to Dayton Avenue
- Easton Avenue
- Hillview Avenue
- West Grove
- West Grove II
- Willow Creek
- Meadowwood
Trees planned for removal are located at various locations throughout the city. Winkler’s will grind the stumps to not less than 12 inches below the ground line. Restoration work will take place in the spring.
