Patrol Division

The Patrol Division is the largest and most visible of our three divisions. The Patrol Division is made up of five (5) patrol shifts, a Traffic Safety Unit, a Crime Prevention Unit and three (3) Community Service Officers.

  • As first responders, our patrol officers are the backbone of the Department. They work five patrol shifts providing police services 24 hours per day. They are responsible for our residents’ safety as they conduct targeted preventive patrols, answer emergency and non-emergency calls for service, and conduct traffic enforcement.
  • The Traffic Safety Unit is responsible for traffic safety and enforcement as well as for the investigation of serious injury and fatal traffic crashes. They work closely with our patrol officers to promote traffic safety throughout West Chicago.
  • The Crime Prevention Unit is responsible for promoting crime prevention on a community wide basis. The Crime Prevention Unit organizes and hosts programs such as Neighborhood Watch, National Night Out, Crime Free Multi-Housing Program and Too Good for Drugs.
  • Our three (3) Community Service Officers are responsible for carrying out a variety of tasks, including conducting parking enforcement, assisting with traffic direction, reporting and enforcement of non-criminal ordinances, investigating animal complaints, and completing private property crash reports.
