What You Should Know

Overnight Parking
City of West Chicago Ordinance #17-116 prohibits parking on City streets from 2:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. Nightly permission may be granted upon request. Please call (630) 293-2222 to inquire about overnight parking.

Parking Fines
Parking tickets may be paid by mail using the tickets as an envelope. In order to avoid penalties, please allow sufficient time for mailing payment. Parking tickets may be paid in person at the West Chicago Police Department through the Records Section. You may request a court hearing concerning the ticket. This request must be made in person at the West Chicago Police Department. Fines not paid by the due date are doubled.

Payment of Fines
Instructions for the payment of traffic fines are written on the back of the citation. Fines and questions should be directed to the DuPage County Clerk, (630) 407-8600 or the Kane County Clerk's Office, (630) 208-3319.

Request for Police (Accident) Reports
Requests for police reports must be made in person at the Records Section. Copies of accident reports that involve reconstruction of the accident are available at a cost of $20 each and are available only after the reconstruction is complete.

Vacation Watch
While on vacation (a minimum of seven days) residents may request the West Chicago Police Department to make periodic checks of their home. A vacation watch form, which is available from the Police Department, must be completed.

Community Curfew
It is unlawful for a person less than seventeen (17) years of age to be present at or upon any public assembly, building, place, street or highway at the following times unless accompanied and supervised by a parent, legal guardian or other responsible companion at least eighteen (18) years of age approved by a parent or legal guardian or unless engaged in a business or occupation which the laws of this state authorize a person less than seventeen (17) years of age to perform:
(1) Between 12:01 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Saturday;
(2) Between 12:01 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Sunday; and
(3) Between 11:00 p.m. on Sunday to Thursday, inclusive, and 6:00 a.m. on the following day.

It is unlawful for a parent, legal guardian or other person to knowingly permit a person in his custody or control to violate the City’s curfew ordinance.
