Selling a home in West Chicago requires a change of occupancy inspection. This can be set up by calling Community Development at 630-293-2200 extension 131 to schedule an appointment with an inspector who will visit your home and check it for minimum life safety requirements, including such items as smoke detectors, ground fault interrupters and railings on stairs. For your convenience, we have prepared a Residential Occupancy Handout (PDF - 723k) for the complete list of items inspected.
A fee of $.11 per square foot will be charged. Once any required improvements are made and the inspection is approved, you may call City Hall at 630-293-2200 extension 142 to schedule the final water meter reading. Also, you will need to complete the Deed Certification Form (PDF - 787k) and take it to City Hall to pay any outstanding fees and obtain the deed certification stamp. This is required to record a deed in DuPage County.
