Dedication of Michael Browning Way Memorializes
West Chicago Police Officer Killed in the Line of Duty
West Chicago,
Illinois: May 25, 2007 - The dedication of a West Chicago roadway in honor
of slain police officer Michael Browning brought family, friends and
fellow officers to the southwest intersection of Route 38 and Route 59
yesterday.
The dedication,
organized by the West Chicago Police Department and presided over by Mayor
Michael B. Kwasman and Chief of Police Donald Goncher, included an opening
ceremony with the Honor Guard, the unveiling of sign covers displaying the
roadways new name, Michael Browning Way, and a
rifle salute presented by the Carol Stream Color Guard.
Mayor Kwasman
addressed the group assembled, conveying the City's gratitude for Officer
Browning's dedicated service to West Chicago. "Officer Michael Browning
made the ultimate sacrifice for a city he loved," he said. "His name and
memory will always be a part of West Chicago's history."
Following a
presentation of a street sign and Officer Browning's cadet badge by Chief
Goncher to the family was a moment of silent reflection for Officer
Browning and all officers slain in the line of duty.
