Whatever the season, there’s a reason to celebrate in West Chicago. Family-friendly events, coordinated by community volunteers and organizations in cooperation with the City of West Chicago bring people together to share an experience that’s distinctly West Chicago!

PDF - 60k Downtown Trick or Treat
Date: October 25, 2008
Time: 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Location: Downtown West Chicago
 
Downtown West Chicago businesses, designated by a pumpkin in their window, will host the annual trick or treat for the community’s little ghosts and goblins. The activity is part of the Horribly Fun Halloween Happenings, which includes a costume parade and Spooky Trail, sponsored by the West Chicago Park District and a Halloween puppet show presented by the West Chicago Public Library. Frosty Fest
Date: December 6, 2008

Location: Downtown West Chicago
 
West Chicago’s downtown will be transformed into an old-fashioned winter vignette complete with a grand tree lighting, horse-drawn sleigh, live reindeer, Victorian carolers, and of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Polar Express

Things get ‘hot’ in February as the West Chicago Fire District teams up with the West Chicago Park District to proudly present the annual Chili Fest! Blooming Fest

Longer days and warmer temperatures invite a return to the garden or a stroll down Main Street. Enjoy both on May 17, 2008 when the City of West Chicago presents another colorful Blooming Fest, an annual downtown garden festival. It combines the West Chicago Garden Club’s popular plant sale, with a craft show, children's activities, music, food and fun. Downtown merchants and restaurants get into the act with special promotions, in-store specials and sidewalk sales. Volunteers are needed for downtown flower planting. Those interested are asked to call City Hall at (630) 293-2200 ext. 135 to sign up. For those who crave spring, this is one event you won’t want to miss!

Touch-a-Truck

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to sit in a fire truck, dump truck, cement mixer or police car? The West Chicago Park District in conjunction with the West Chicago Police Department offers this opportunity free to kids of all ages. Currier-Reed Lawn Party
Date: June 2009

Location: Currier-Reed House, 241 E. Washington Street
 

Celebrate Flag Day in an historic way with the Friends of the West Chicago City Museum on Saturday, June 14, 2008.  From 1:30-4:00 pm, families and friends are invited to a Summer Lawn Party at the Currier Reed home, 241 E. Washington Street.

This event has something for everyone.  Step back in time and play Civil War era children’s games from 2:00-3:00 pm on the spacious, rolling lawn of this 1856 home.  Children will also make flags from the Civil War period. 

Live Civil War era music will be heard, presented by the Battlefield Balladeers, as guests partake of beverages and desserts.  President and Mrs. Lincoln will of course be in attendance, and Arvilla Currier herself will welcome you to her home.

Tickets are $15 per person, $12 for members; $25 per couple, $20 for members; $30 per family, $25 for members. Children under the age of 2 are free.  Tickets are available at the West Chicago City Museum, 132 Main Street.

National Night Out

The City of West Chicago will join neighborhoods nationwide in hosting its own National Night Out. The event is an annual tradition that celebrates the success of communities’ crime, drug and violence prevention programs. Mexican Independence Day Parade and Celebration
Date: September 2009
 
Enjoy the sights, sounds and flavors of West Chicago's Mexican heritage. The City of West Chicago is sponsoring a parade and celebration on Sunday, September 14, 2008 from 1:00-8:00 p.m. The parade steps off at 1:00 p.m. at Joliet Street and Augusta Avenue and ends in the historic downtown district on Main Street. The celebration continues downtown until 8:00 p.m. and includes music by Los Arenales de Tejas, Ballet Folklórico Huehuecoyotl, a mariachi band, piñatas, food and other Mexican favorites, commemorating this important day in Mexican history.
