Education
If schools provide a peek into the health and vitality of a city, West Chicago clearly is thriving. A stellar school system, supported by small class sizes, outstanding educational opportunities, a variety of extracurricular programs, and teachers and administrators who are committed to their students' success, gives this community its edge. From early childhood education to a college degree, students of all ages and backgrounds flourish in West Chicago.
Setting the Standard for High School Excellence
In addition to an impressive record of academic achievement and program innovation, Community High School is one of the premier school facilities in Illinois. The school offers students a pool, a fieldhouse, two gymnasiums, a dance studio, a fitness room, a photo darkroom, a horticulture laboratory, a full-service library, a sports stadium, and modern classrooms wired with state-of-the-art technology.
With Community High School's dynamic, nurturing environment, high expectations, competitive athletic programs, and a plethora of clubs and organizations, the opportunities for growth and success are endless.
Specialized Language Programs at the Elementary Level
West Chicago elementary students attend top-notch schools in three districts. The schools offer quality programs for gifted students as well as self-contained bilingual classes for students learning English as a second language.
A dual-language program at Gary School, in which students spend half the day immersed in English and the other half immersed in Spanish, enriches students and exposes them to the benefits of fluency in more than one language. With small class sizes and plenty of parental involvement, each of these schools can be called a "neighborhood school."
Quality Educational Offerings for Young and Old
In addition to outstanding K–12 schools, West Chicago is home to several excellent church-based and private preschools. Some of the more progressive early-education programs, such as Montessori and the Goddard School, can be found in neighboring towns, just minutes away.
On the other end of the spectrum, College of DuPage, the Midwest's largest single-campus community college, serves West Chicago's degree-seekers with convenient satellite classes and a wide range of continuing education courses. |
