Chicago White Sox World Series Trophy Tour Heads to West Chicago
West Chicago, Illinois - May 3, 2006: Continuing the celebration of the Chicago White Sox World Series Championship, the White Sox and U.S. Cellular are bringing the 2005 World Series trophy to the City of West Chicago. The visit, scheduled for Thursday, June 8, 2006, between 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, 475 Main Street, is part of a 45-city tour across Illinois and Northwest Indiana making at least 100 appearances at U.S. Cellular stores and other public venues along the way. A suggested $10 cash donation, which will benefit Chicago White Sox Charities and the United Way, is requested for all visitors. Fans will need to provide their own cameras to take advantage of this photo opportunity. Only the first 500 fans are guaranteed photos with the trophy. "This tour is a big 'thank you' to White Sox fans across the city of Chicago and the entire state of Illinois," said White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf. "They waited 88 years for the Sox to become World Series Champions again. This trophy belongs to them, and we're pleased to be able to bring it to their communities." Measuring two feet tall, the trophy features 30 gold-plated, hand-furled flags, one for each of the Major League teams, which rise above an arched silver ox baseball with latitude and longitude lines that symbolize the world. The baseball includes 24-karat vermeil baseball stitches and the base contains an inscription along with the signature of the commissioner of Major League Baseball. The 30-pound, sterling silver trophy will travel the region in style within its own luxury Chevrolet SUV, and will be guarded by security officers at each location. A trophy tour schedule with further stops can be found at www.whitesox.com or by calling (312) 674-5197.
