Notice of West Chicago Fall Hydrant Flushings
Weekdays in October
7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.


West Chicago, Illinois: September 28, 2007 - The City of West Chicago's Water Utility Division has announced fall fire hydrant flushing will begin on Monday, October 1, 2007, and continue weekdays throughout the month of October. The flushing will take place between 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Signs will be posted in the area prior to hydrant flushing.

Hydrant flushing maintains West Chicago's water distribution system and assures proper operation of hydrants in the event of an emergency. Unfortunately, discolored water can result. According to the Water Utility Division, even when flushing is not in the immediate area, discolored water can occur. This discoloration poses no health risk, however it is suggested that residents check the water before washing laundry. Should laundry staining occur, residents are advised not to dry the affected clothing. A laundry aid to remove iron stains may be picked up at City Hall, 475 Main Street, West Chicago.
