December 15, 2009 : West Chicago, Illinois – The City of West Chicago has once again been recognized by the National Association of Town Watch for their outstanding participation in this year’s National Night Out. The event, which was created to help generate awareness and support for crime, drug and violence prevention, helps promote police and community relationships, as well as strengthen neighborhood unity.
This year’s event consisted of 14,625 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases, involving over 36 million people. West Chicago hosted events throughout the weekend leading up to the big night, reaching out to more then 2,300 people. For their efforts, the City has been selected as a National Award Winner, placing 16 out of 54 towns in the category for cities with populations of 15,000 – 49,999. A special award has been received and will be on display at the West Chicago Police Department.
Robyn Nielsen, Crime Prevention Officer and event coordinator, credited the teamwork of many for the national honor. “I would like to thank everyone involved in this year’s National Night Out for their hard work, participation and support. Without the committee members, without the participants, without the residents, this event would not have been such a huge success,” she said. “It is a very powerful statement when more than 2,300 people come together to celebrate the community and keep West Chicago safe from crime.”
