West Chicago Frosty Fest Lives Up to Name
West
Chicago, Illinois: December 3, 2007 – West Chicago’s Frosty Fest
lived up to its name with snow and icy rain adding extra 'bling' to
the hundreds of lights that City and Park District crews had wrapped
around trees and lampposts in preparation of the annual celebration.
While some activities were cancelled due to the weather conditions,
those that attended enjoyed the scenic picture of a glistening
downtown, a tree lighting, reindeer games and crafts and everyone’s
favorite visitor from the North Pole ~ Santa.
“We regret the absence of the live reindeer
which had been sponsored by West Chicago Sister Cities,” said City
spokesperson Rosemary Mackey, “however, safety always comes first
when planning events and the road conditions posed too great a risk
for their transport to West Chicago. We will try again next year.”
Mackey also spoke on behalf of the Frosty Fest committee in thanking
the many groups that performed, volunteered or
sponsored the event for their outstanding generosity. They include the following:
• American Legion
Post 300 • West Chicago Public Library • West Chicago Fire District
• Fox Community Center • West Chicago Middle School Band
• Community High School Chamber Choir • WeGo Together For Kids
• Friends of the Museum • St. Vincent Thrift Shop • ESDA • St.
Mary’s Choir • Carniceria Jimenez • Wheaton Academy Kantorei •
National City Bank • Oberweis for Congress • V.F.W. Post 6791 • West
Chicago Sister Cities• Ladies Auxiliary to V.F.W. Post 6791 •
West Chicago Lions Club • West Chicago Rotary Club •
KinderCare • Christie Poulin/State Farm • Cortez Bakery •
Santo Maria Ristorante • NorthStar Credit •
Union/WECO Community
Children
and their families delighted in horse-drawn sleigh rides, live music
and free refreshments. The City plans on posting a slide show to its
website, http://www.westchicago.org/,
later this week for the enjoyment of those that couldn’t make it as
well as for those that braved the elements and celebrated what might
have been the frostiest Frosty Fest in
West Chicago history.
