Essay Theme Seeks 'Favorite Things About West Chicago' -
Contest Winners to Participate in Frosty Fest Tree Lighting |
 |
West Chicago, Illinois: November 16, 2009 -
A Few of My Favorite Things About West Chicago is the theme of an essay contest for the community’s elementary school-aged children, sponsored by the City of West Chicago.
The contest has become something of an annual tradition, now in its third year, and a part of Frosty Fest which is scheduled for Saturday, December 5, 2009 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. The seasonal celebration takes place downtown and includes a Frosty Procession, grand tree lighting, visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, reindeer games and crafts, live reindeer and more.
The idea of an essay contest originated through the wish of Mayor Mike Kwasman to tap into the creativity and imagination of the community’s school children and learn what about the community is special to them. Three of the best essays will be chosen and featured on the City’s website, and winners will be invited to help Mayor Kwasman light the official holiday tree at the Fox Community Center during Frosty Fest.
Essays will be judged in the following three age categories; grades 1-2; grades 3-4; grades 5-6. All essays must be received at City Hall, 475 Main Street, West Chicago, IL 60185, by close of business on Monday, November 30, 2009. Winners will be notified later that week. Call Rosemary Mackey at (630) 293-2200 extension 139 with any questions. |
