Chicago, Illinois – On Tuesday, October 27th at the Union League Club of Chicago, Econ Illinois recognized twenty Illinois teachers as Stars in the Classroom. The teachers were recognized for having winning students that participated in an Econ Illinois program during the 2008-2009 school year and for their incorporation of economic education into their content area of instruction. Mr. Don Zabelin, teacher at Community High School District 94 in West Chicago, was one of the recipients of this prestigious Award.
Through various Econ Illinois economic programs, students compete from around the State and are awarded for their winning accomplishments. The Stars in the Classroom Award recognizes the teachers who enable these students to participate and excel among their peers regionally or statewide.
Representatives from Econ Illinois and 3M, sponsor of the Award, presented the teachers with a cash award as well as a framed certificate to celebrate their dedication and contribution to economic education within the classroom.
Econ Illinois, affiliate of the Council for Economic Education, is a unit within the division of NIU Outreach at Northern Illinois University. Through Centers for Economic Education at universities throughout the State, Econ Illinois provides professional development programs for K-12 teachers, curriculum consulting, and student programs to enhance economic understanding.
