'Favorite Things About West Chicago' -
Contest Winners to Participate in Frosty Fest Tree
Lighting
West Chicago, Illinois: November 7, 2007 – A Few of My Favorite Things About West Chicago is the theme
of an essay contest for the community’s elementary school-aged
children announced today by the City of West Chicago.
The contest is a new element of the
annual Frosty Fest event, presented by the City of West Chicago and
the West Chicago Park District, which is scheduled for Saturday,
December 1, 2007 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. The seasonal celebration
takes place downtown and includes a Frosty Procession, grand tree
lighting, visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, reindeer games and
crafts, Community High School choir, Middle School band, live
reindeer and more.
The idea of an essay contest came from
Mayor Michael Kwasman who wants to tap into the creativity and
imagination of the community’s school children and learn what about
the community is special to them. Three of the best essays will be
chosen and featured on the City’s website, and winners will
be invited to help Mayor Kwasman light the official holiday tree and
the trees that line Main Street during Frosty Fest.
Essays will be judged in the following
three age categories; grades 1-2; grades 3-4; grades 5-6. All essays
must be received at City Hall, 475 Main Street, West Chicago, IL
60185, by close of business on Monday, November 26, 2007. Winners
will be announced later that week. Call Rosemary Mackey at (630)
293-2200 extension 139 with any questions.
