West Chicago, Illinois: October 23, 2009 - The West Chicago Cultural Arts Commission invites accomplished and emerging artists with a connection to West Chicago (either through residence, work or school); or currently living in the Chicagoland area, to submit digital files of original art for consideration in the Community Banner Project Competition. All media are welcome, with no limitation to technique or treatment of theme, as long as the theme revolves around “Animals."
A juror will select up to 20 works of art, out of which at least 10 will be from artists with a West Chicago connection. Each winning design will be reproduced and featured in the 2010 West Chicago Banner Exhibition. Artists selected will receive credit on both banner and in printed material related to the exhibition. A reception honoring the selected artists will take place during the annual Blooming Fest in mid-May, 2010. At this time the general public will be invited to vote for an artist/banner to receive the People’s Choice Award. The following lists all specifications:
Banner Specifications: Banners measure: (h)60” x (w)30” with text, image field measures approx:
(h)42” x (w)30, (attachment). West Chicago Cultural Arts Commission will work with artists to obtain proper file sizes for reproduction if selected. However, all submissions should reflect the size specifications to avoid cropping. The West Chicago Cultural Arts Commission is responsible for banner printing cost and banner installation. Banners become the property of the Cultural Arts Commission. Following an outdoor exhibit, banners will be auctioned to support the program's subsequent year. Artists maintain the first right of refusal in the purchase of the banner that depicts their art.
Submission Specifications: An entry is comprised of up to 3 JPEG images at 72 dpi measuring
(h)7” x (w)5”. All files should be numbered and named with the artist’s last name and first name, for example: 01Lastname_Firstname.jpg, and submitted via email to: cultural@westchicago.org. Please write: ‘WC 2010 Banner Entry’ in the subject line. List the following for each submitted file: number, title, year, media, and dimension. Include your full name, address, phone number and connection to the City of West Chicago in the body of your email. Please also respect that no additional support materials will be accepted at this time. All entries must be original and executed within two years of entry date. Entries must be received by February 1, 2010. Incomplete and/or late entries will not be reviewed.
An information session will be held in West Chicago in early January 2010. Judging of submissions will be based on JPEG files only. JPEG files submitted must represent actual work. West Chicago Cultural Arts Commission reserves the right to refuse to exhibit any work it deems unacceptable due to significant departure from JPEG representation or inappropriate content. Submitted and accepted artwork will not be used for any other purpose. The exhibition runs from May 1 – September 1, 2010. |
