DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. –– Photos, videos, statistics and other information about this summer's Illinois flood disaster are now available online.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has launched an Illinois disaster-specific Web site at: www.fema.gov/Illinois.
The site design makes it easy for private citizens, the news media, government officials, nonprofit organizations and others to find the information they need.
"This resource was developed to provide easy access to critical information for a wide cross-section of people affected by the disaster," said Gregory Eaton, FEMA's Federal Coordinating Officer. "This is designed to be a 'one-stop shop' for anyone looking for disaster recovery information. I expect this to be a model for FEMA's future use of the Web to connect with disaster communities."
The site includes up-to-date disaster recovery statistics, photos, videos, links to state and private sector partners in the recovery effort, and the latest FEMA news releases about the disaster. Feedback links are included on the site to encourage communication between the public and FEMA.
The project is part of a FEMA-wide effort to use Web and social media tools to reach the public along with traditional distribution methods such as newspapers and broadcast outlets.
