West Chicago Police Department Receives the Prestigious PRIDE Award from Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists

West Chicago, Illinois: June 29, 2009 - The West Chicago Police Department has been honored with a special award from the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists (AAIM), an organization that has made preventing deaths and injuries caused by intoxicated motorists in Illinois and helping victims and their families, their mission since 1982.

The PRIDE Award, which stands for Prevention Reflected in Dedicated Enforcement, was developed to recognize local police departments and officers who continue to make the removal of impaired drivers from DuPage County highways a priority. It is given to the DuPage County Police Department which has achieved the highest percentile increase in the number of DUI arrests in a one year period.

The West Chicago Police Department has achieved a 148% increase in DUI arrests from 2007 to 2008. The total number of arrests increased from 75 in 2007, to 186 in 2008. “I am proud of the efforts of our Police Department in keeping our roadways safer, and commend them for achieving this prestigious award from the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists,” said Mayor Mike Kwasman.

The West Chicago Police Department will be recognized for the PRIDE Award at the City Council meeting scheduled on July 6, 2009, 7:00 p.m., at 475 Main Street.
