COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT #94
STUDENT OF THE MONTH
JUNE 2008
June 10, 2008: West Chicago, IL - The faculty and administration of Community High School District #94 would like to congratulate Ryan Scheck, of Wheaton, for being chosen Student of the Month for June 2008.
One of Ryan’s teachers writes, “Ryan is a young man who truly exemplifies the best of the Class of 2008. With his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence, he demonstrates what it means to be a scholar. Whether he is making a comment in class or writing an essay, Ryan shows his open-mindedness and demonstrates true analytical skills. He never shies away from a challenge or complains about how much work he has. Instead he uses each assignment as an opportunity to improve himself and showcase his abilities as a critical thinker.”
Ryan has been very active in sports at Community High School. One coach writes, “Ryan was a great leader for the younger players on the team. He was always willing to work with them and offer them words of encouragement. He was one of the most engaged athletes on the team.” He played golf for four years, this year serving as captain, earning all-conference and academic all-conference. Ryan has also participated in indoor track for three seasons and outdoor track the past two seasons. He was elected captain his senior season and Athlete of the Week.
While maintaining a 4.0 grade point average in all AP and enriched classes, Ryan also has been involved in school clubs including Math Team for two years and Aviation Club for three years. He was elected into the National Honor Society his junior year. Ryan is an Illinois State Scholar and a recipient of the Prairie State Achievement Award.
Outside of school, Ryan volunteers his time to work with the elderly by doing yard work and helping a family out whose father has had a stroke. He works as a caddy at a local golf course and assists his father in manufacturing, lawn mowing and snow plowing.
Ryan’s future plans include attending Purdue University and majoring in Professional Flight Technology with a minor in Meteorology and/or Spanish. He hopes to get a job with American or United Airlines. His dream job would be to be a pilot for Air Force One, the highest honor for a pilot. Finally, he hopes to keep his golf game till he dies. He also would like to be a Cubs season ticket holder so he can see them win a World Series.
Congratulations Ryan on all your accomplishments and best wishes for your future!
