West Chicago, IL: March 19, 2009 - A special activity, Stitches of Fun, will be offered at the West Chicago City Museum, located at 132 Main Street, on Thursday, April 2, 2009. The free drop-in event, which is geared for grade school children, is a great way to spend some quality family time. The program runs from 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and will consist of games, a nine-patch quilt craft and the telling of a related story called Sam Johnson and the Blue Ribbon Quilt.

The second installment of the quilt exhibit, Stories in Stitches, will open April 3, 2009. The local quilts on display tell a story or evoke the times in which they were made. There will be twelve different quilts on exhibit, including the quilt made in 1955 that features the embroidered autographs of 18 “Pickle Packers of West Chicago” – women who worked at Columbia Foods, the pickle factory which once occupied the site that now belongs to Jel Sert on Illinois Route 59.

Located at 132 Main Street, the West Chicago City Museum is open Tuesday - Friday, 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and Saturday, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, or to learn about other Museum programs, call (630) 231-3376, or visit this page.
