ComEd Issues Storm Alert
West
Chicago, Illinois: January 29, 2008 – The City of West Chicago has
been notified by ComEd that a storm alert for the entire ComEd
service territory has been in effect since 11:00 a.m. today. As
sustained winds of 25-30 miles per hour and gusts of 45-50 miles per
hour are expected, ComEd is preparing for storm-related damage and
resulting service interruptions. They have activated their emergency
response plan and opened the Emergency Operations Center which will
remain open and fully staffed until the restoration is
complete.
ComEd urges anyone who experiences problems with
electric service to call the utility immediately at 1-800-Edison-1
(1-800-334-7661); Spanish language service – 1-800-95 LUCES
(1-800-955-8237.)
Gusty winds and fallen tree limbs may cause power
lines to fall, creating a hazardous situation. ComEd wishes to
remind the public that if they come across downed power lines they
should not approach these wires, but instead assume them to be
energized and potentially very dangerous. ComEd asks anyone who sees
a downed power line to keep their distance and immediately report
the situation to them at the above numbers.
Due to the potential for prolonged outages, ComEd
is also asking the public for help in checking on elderly family
members and other sensitive customers to ensure they are aware their
service will not be restored immediately. In the interest of their
health, they are also urging these customers to seek other
comfortable arrangements for the duration of the outage. For any
customer on a medical support system, evacuation to a comfortable,
safe place is suggested.
