District 94 officials and the West Chicago High School Teachers' Association announced Monday that a tentative agreement on contract negotiations was reached on Sunday, January 22. Teams representing the Board of Education and West Chicago High School Teachers' Association have been negotiating for nearly 11 months, including mediation since July and a notice of impasse that was filed on Wednesday, January 18. The teachers have been working without a contract since August 22.
Board of Education President Kathe Doremus and West Chicago High School Teachers' Association President Kristina Mallon announced together that the Sunday meeting was successful in reaching a tentative agreement. The tentative agreement will now go to the members of the West Chicago High School Teachers' Association and the Board of Education for ratification. Both feel strongly that despite the long and challenging process, the process itself worked, and they are proud of both negotiating teams for their commitment and efforts.
Additionally, both presidents wish to express appreciation to all staff and administration for their support and dedication to our students throughout this process.
Doremus and Mallon are both pleased to have reached this tentative agreement and look forward to using the experience and insight gained through the past eleven months as an opportunity for better communication and increased collaboration for all stakeholders in the district.
