Community Calendar Arrives at the West Chicago City Museum

The West Chicago 2010 Community Calendar will serve as a reminder of the past while functioning as a practical guide for upcoming events and local attractions.

West Chicago, Illinois: January 14, 2010 – The Friends of the West Chicago City Museum are beginning the new decade by celebrating the community's storied past and exciting future through a retrospective calendar, which not only includes photos significant to West Chicago's rich history but also functions as a guide to upcoming events and local attractions.

Recognizing the need for a comprehensive source of dates and information for community happenings, the Friends reached out to inter-governmental organizations, service and civic clubs, and community groups to compile the 2010 Community Calendar. Furthermore, they have set up a system for updating the calendar throughout the year should new items be scheduled at a later date, making the calendar a great means of staying connected. Stickers containing the information updates will be mailed quarterly through the Friends newsletter.

The photographs included in the calendar help to illustrate the people, events and innovations that are the backbone of the community we know today. Images featured include a Pioneer Locomotive from 1880, a bicycle race in downtown from 1895, Gary's Mill School students in 1896, the American Legion Band in a 1925 parade, the Pedraza sisters who lived in the boxcar camps west of town in 1930, the bizzard of 1967 and more.

The limited edition calendar is being offered for sale for $10 at the City Museum, 132 Main Street; City Hall, 475 Main Street; or the West Chicago Printing Company, 131 Fremont Street. Members of the Friends of the West Chicago City Museum may purchase it for $8. Proceeds of the sales will go to support future Museum initiatives. For those wishing to provide updates to the calendar, please contact Sara Phalen at (630) 231-3376.
