Parents in West Chicago are waiting
to be matched with a tutor!

Be a part of the WeGo Together for Kids Parent Literacy Project!

WeGo Together for Kids and Literacy DuPage are offering a tutor training workshop.

The best way to ensure that children are successful in school is to address the literacy needs of the adults in their lives. Our tutor training teaches people like you to help a neighbor in West Chicago read, write, speak and understand English better. When you share your time as a volunteer tutor, you will build a mutually rewarding one-on-one relationship with a District 33 parent who needs your help. Not only will you see direct rewards from their work and take pride in helping them become more independent, but you will also be contributing to the academic progress of their children.

Tutors may be retirees, homemakers, or employed full-time. Tutors need not be experienced in teaching or be bilingual. Tutors, however, must be over 18 years old, have graduated from high school, and be fluent in English.

Volunteer tutors receive comprehensive training in a series of six workshops, preparing for English as a Second Language instruction. After training, tutors meet with their adult learner for two hours a week, at a convenient time and location for both. Tutors customize the lesson plans to help the adult learner with everyday life skills such as reading to their children, making a phone call, reading medicine labels, speaking to a neighbor or paying bills.

The 6-class training session begins Monday, February, 22.
