City of West Chicago Seeks Qualified Developer for Downtown Property at
151 West Washington Street

West Chicago, Illinois: January 2, 2013 The City of West Chicago, Illinois is seeking a qualified developer to rehabilitate a historic structure located within the West Washington Street Redevelopment Project area, for retail, restaurant, office, commercial or cultural uses. The former residence, sometimes referred to as the Joel Wiant House, is located at 151 West Washington Street. A Request for Qualifications (RFQ) has been posted to the City of West Chicago website and is available here: REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS - 2013 (pdf - 151k). Proposals are due no later than Monday, March 4, 2013 and should be directed to the City of West Chicago, Department of Community Development, 475 Main Street, West Chicago, IL 60185.

Rehabilitation and renovation of this property should result in a building that can accommodate viable commercial uses that are consistent with City zoning regulations, and that fit within the larger Redevelopment Project while preserving those portions or features that convey its historical, cultural and architectural value and is consistent with City zoning regulations. The building was originally constructed circa 1869, is within the City's historic district and is listed on two statewide historical surveys.

According to Director of Community Development John D. Said, the City is flexible in its approach with this location. "We welcome proposals from any qualified individuals or groups dedicated to the adaptive reuse of this building. This is a great opportunity for people to come up with creative concepts to impress the community."

A full copy of the RFQ is available here: REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS - 2013 (pdf - 151k). Further information concerning the RFQ and 151 W. Washington is available by contacting John D. Said AICP, Director of Community Development at jsaid@westchicago.org or (630) 293-2200 ext. 140.
